Cookie Policy
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy refers exclusively to the Italia Trasporto Aereo S.p.A website (www.ita-airways.com, hereinafter the “Website") and forms an integral part of its Privacy Policy.
2. What are cookies
A “cookie” is a small text file that can be stored in a dedicated space on the hard disk of the device used by the user (e.g. computer, tablet, smartphone, etc.) when visiting a website via a browser, and may be subject to the user’s prior consent before being installed. Through the use of cookies, websites remember users’ actions and preferences (e.g. login data, language chosen, font size and other display settings, etc.) so that they don’t have to be reset when users return to the website or browse from one page to another. Cookies are used to perform computer authentication, to monitor browsing sessions and to store information concerning the activities of users accessing a website. They can also contain a unique identification code that makes it possible to keep track of the user's navigation within the website for statistical or advertising purposes. When browsing a website, users may also receive cookies on their computers or mobile devices from websites or web servers other than the one they are visiting (so-called "third party” cookies"). Some operations cannot be carried out without the use of cookies, which in some cases are therefore technically necessary for websites to function properly.
There are various types of cookies, depending on their features and functions, and these may remain on the user’s computer or mobile device for different periods of time: “session cookies” are automatically deleted upon closing the browser, while “persistent cookies” remain on the device for a set period of time.
Under applicable law, the use of cookies does not always require the user’s express consent. In particular, consent is not required for "technical" or "essential" cookies, i.e. cookies used for the sole purpose of transmitting a communication over an electronic communications network or to the extent strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user. These cookies are essential for the operation of the Website or, in any case, necessary to perform activities requested by the user. According to the provisions of the Italian Data Protection Authority “Simplified Arrangements to Provide Information and Obtain Consent Regarding Cookies” of 8 May 2014 (hereinafter the "Arrangements") and, more recently, the “Guidelines on the use of cookies and other tracking tools” of 10 June 2021 (hereinafter the "Guidelines"), essential cookies, which do not require express consent for their use, include:
- first-party and third-party statistical or analytical cookies, where tools are adopted to reduce the identifying power of cookies and the third party does not cross-reference the information collected with other information already available, used to collect information, in aggregate form, on the number of users and how they visit the Website;
- navigation or session cookies, disabling which may jeopardize the use of services accessible upon logging in;
- functionality cookies, which allow the user to browse according to a set of selected criteria (e.g. language) in order to improve the service provided.
Instead, (i) for "marketing cookies", i.e. those aimed at identifying users’ preferences in order to improve and personalize their browsing experience and/or send marketing communications in line with the preferences expressed while browsing, (ii) for third-party statistical or "analytics" cookies, where tools are not adopted to reduce the identifying power of cookies and the third party cross-references the information collected with other information already available, and (iii) for cookies not strictly necessary for the technical operation of the Website (see, for example, "experience" cookies used to improve the user experience), the user’s prior consent is required.
3. Types of Cookies used by the Website and enabling/disabling same
Please note that the Website uses the following cookies, which can be disabled, also individually (as specified below in the section on “Cookie settings”):
- Necessary “technical” cookies: These cookies allow the Website to function correctly and allow users to view its contents; disabling them would lead to Website malfunctions; technical cookies also include functionality cookies, used to enable specific Website features and to configure the Website based on the user’s choices (e.g. language), with a view to improving the browsing experience;
- Statistical and analytics cookies, which are not functional to the operation of the Website and which allow the Data Controller to statistically monitor use of the Website by visitors and analyze traffic to and from the Website; these cookies allow the Data Controller to carry out statistical analyzes aimed at improving the Website and simplifying its use, as well as to monitor its correct operation. An example is the presence on the Website of Google Analytics 4, a Google product allowing the Data Controller to understand how users interact with the Website. Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”) uses a set of cookies to collect information and generate statistics on the use of the Website by visitors and to track traffic generated therein. Please note that the collection of data through GA4 analytical cookies is carried out through local data centers (known as “regional data collection”) both to improve the Website’s loading performance and to ensure that data from users located in the European Union is collected and managed through devices in the European Economic Area, before being forwarded to Google Analytics data centers for processing. Moreover, the IP address is not recorded and/or stored in any form through the use of GA4, as it is removed after inferring certain information about its location (city, latitude and longitude of the city, continent, country, geographical area, subcontinent), retrieved before forwarding the traffic to the Google Analytics servers for processing.
- "Experience" cookies, aimed at improving the quality of the user experience and allowing interactions with external content and platforms, such as cookies connected to Google Fonts and/or Font Awesome to display font styles through the Website.
- Cookies or other first- and third-party marketing and profiling trackers used to observe the preferences revealed by the user while browsing and using the Website and to profile the user in order to ensure commercial communications and a browsing experience in line with the preferences expressed by the user while surfing the Web.
It should be noted that the aforementioned third parties process personal data as Data Processors acting on behalf of the Data Controller, in accordance with specific data processing agreements pursuant to Article 28 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679. Third parties typically also act as independent controllers of data collected through the cookies they send; in this case the user gives or denies consent directly to the owner of the cookie in question, to which the Website merely refers. The handling of information collected by third parties is governed by their privacy policies, which users should refer to and links to which are provided, for convenience, in the following list of cookies used on the Website.
In detail, the cookies installed through the Website are:
