The Piedmontese capital, ancient and elegant capital of the Savoy kingdom, is a city rich in architectural beauties, precious museums, delicious historic cafes and beautiful squares.
Booking an ITA Airways flight from London to Turin you can breathe the noble history of this city by visiting symbols such as the towering Mole Antonelliana, the central Piazza Castello with its characteristic arcades, ""the living room of Turin"" of Piazza San Carlo, but also extraordinary museums such as the Royal Museums, the Egyptian Museum, the most important for the history of Egyptian civilization after the Cairo Museum, the Cinema Museum, housed inside the Mole Antonelliana and the only museum dedicated to the seventh art in Italy. Do not forget to taste dishes, wines and desserts of the renowned Piedmontese tradition and treat yourself to a coffee at the counter of one of the many historic bars, a real journey into that nineteenth-century Turin that fascinated nobles, intellectuals and philosophers such as Nietzsche. Here are some of the things you can do and see on a trip to Turin.
WHAT TO SEE IN TURIN
- - MOLE. This tall building is undoubtedly the symbol of the city. Work initially conceived as a synagogue and later sold to the municipality, it was commissioned by the Jewish community to the architect Alessandro Antonelli in 1863. A panoramic elevator allows you to get to the small temple positioned above the dome at 85m high. An ideal point to enjoy a breathtaking view of the city.
- - EGYPTIAN MUSEUM. It is the most important museum of Egyptian antiquities in the world after that of Cairo and boasts about 6500 artifacts including sarcophagi, statues, mummies, papyrus, amulets, funerary objects, jewels and archaeological treasures of all kinds. A must visit on a trip to Turin!
- - PIAZZA CASTELLO. It is the heart of the city, the second largest square in the Piedmontese capital. Embellished by the characteristic arcades, it is surrounded by some of the most important historic buildings in Turin: Palazzo Reale, the Teatro Regio, Palazzo Madama, the Royal Church of San Lorenzo. A spectacle for the eyes.
- - PIAZZA SAN CARLO. Nicknamed ""the Living Room of Turin"" for its elegance, this rectangular square is one of the most fascinating in the city. At the center stands the equestrian statue of Emanuele Filiberto, while on one side of the square there are two twin churches in Baroque style: Santa Cristina and San Carlo.
- - VALENTINO PARK. After visiting the city's extraordinary museums and architectural sights, you can rest in this beautiful park that will also delight the little ones. Inside, in fact, among statues, fountains and gardens, there is a beautiful nineteenth-century reproduction of a village of the fifteenth century: the medieval village of Valentino.
WHEN TO GO TO TURIN
You can book your ITA Airways flight from London to Turin at any time of the year, although the best season to visit the city is probably spring, when the weather will allow you to wander the streets without the sultry heat of summer or the harshness of the winter months. In this period the main squares are filled with young people for the aperitif time, while at the Valentino park you can attend free concerts and outdoor cinema screenings.
