Plane + train. What a beautiful combination!

Planning a vacation or a work trip in Europe? Imagine arriving at your desired destination straight from your city effortlessly, quickly and with no traffic stress with the help of a combined plane + train ticket.

Thanks to the partnership between ITA Airways and AccesRail!

You can purchase your  plane and train journeys in a single transaction to travel to a large number of Italian and European cities, moving effortlessly from train to plane and back again.

From the main train stations of Italy and Europe you can board the train and get off right in the center of your destination city.

For example, you can depart from Padua with a Trenitalia Frecciarossa train, arrive at Rome Fiumicino Airport, then fly to London before arriving in Edinburgh, with a combined plane + train ticket!

But the surprises don't end here.

There will new options from April, including the chance to purchase a combined plane + train ticket  for selected intercontinental flights and thanks to the partnership with Aeroporti di Roma, the opening at the train station at Rome Fiumicino Airport of a dedicated desk at check-in for anyone travelling with a combined ticket.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF FLYING WITH ACCESRAIL?

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE TICKETS?

You can buy tickets on ita-airways.com, our app, at travel agents, IT Airways ticket offices at the airport or via our Customer Center.

HOW CAN I BUY TICKETS?

To buy your plane + train ticket on our website or app, follow these simple steps:

  • Search for the city of departure and your destination, select the class of service, currently only available for flights;
  • Choose your itinerary and purchase a combined ticket that includes both modes of transport

   For the train trip, you should check the Terms and Conditions of individual train operators. Terms and Conditions of the train transportation are separate and distinct from those of the air transportation.

CAN YOU PURCHASE A DUAL TICKET FOR A DOMESTIC FLIGHT?

No, it is only possible to use the service for international and intercontinental flights operated by ITA Airways. Domestic routes are not included. 

IS THERE ONE TICKET OR TWO?

You will have one combined ticket with two distinct transport sections, one for each part of the trip. 

WILL I ONLY CHECK IN ONCE?

 No, you have to check in twice, separately, and you will be sent two boarding cards, one for the plane journey, one for the train journey.

For your plane trip

 You should check in via ITA Airways channels 48 hours prior to departure time for international flights and 24 hours prior to departure for intercontinental flights.

 For your train trip

Log in 72 hours prior to departure to the website Accesrail, insert your ticket number or ITA Airways PNR and check in. Once you have completed the operation, you will receive the boarding card for your train trip

CAN I CHECK IN FOR MY PLANE TRIP AT THE TRAIN STATION?

No. Starting from 5 April, 2023 the service will be available only in the Rome Fiumicino Airport train station for all passengers that have a Trenitalia High Speed ticket traveling to any destination in the ITA Airways network except for domestic destinations, USA and Israel.

WHAT TRAIN STATIONS ARE ACCESSIBLE?

The ITA Airways network (excluding domestic flighs) will be connected to the main Italian and European train stations. Where available, the transfer between the train station and the airport is included in the ticket.

WHAT TRAIN COMPANIES ARE PART OF THE AGREEMENT WITH ACCESRAIL?

WHAT IS ACCESRAIL?

AccesRail is a provider that enables you to combine your ITA Airways with a train trip thanks to an intermodal agreement signed by various European train operators.        

WHAT IS THE PRICE OF THE TRAIN TICKET?

The price of train transportation is included in the cost of the intermodal ticket issued by ITA Airways for the entire origin/destination journey, which means you do not need to purchase an additional ticket. Additional charges may apply if you wish to purchase optional travel services directly from the train operator.

HOW ARE MY BAGS HANDLED?

Your bags will not be transferred automatically by train and plane; you will need to collect your bags at the connecting station or airport and carry them to the next leg of your journey. 

CAN I EARN OR USE VOLARE PROGRAM POINTS?

Yes, but only for the plane trip operated by ITA Airways.

CAN I USE THE ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE SERVICE?

For the plane trip

 If you require assistance, please contact the ITA Airways Customer Center directly.

 For the train trip

 Additional assistance services in special situations such as travel with unaccompanied minors and pets or service animals depend on the individual rules and regulations of the train operator operating the service.

 In addition, travelers who need additional assistance with wheelchairs or other medical equipment should consult the guidelines of the individual train operator.       

 If you are using a wheelchair or a dedicated unaccompanied minor service provided by ITA Airways for your flight, please note that it is not available outside the airport baggage claim area.      

IS IT POSSIBLE TO BOOK SEATS FOR THE PLANE AND TRAIN TRIPS?

For the plane trip

 Seat selection is possible when purchasing the ticket, online, at ita-airways.com and on our app through travel agencies, ITA Airways airport ticket offices, or our Customer Center.

 For the train trip

Your seat is automatically allocated when you check in at accessrail.com.

HOW CAN I CHANGE OR MODIFY MY BOOKING?

To modify or change your reservation, please contact the ITA Airways Call Center by contacting from Italy at 800 936090 (daily 6 am - 12 am) and from outside of Italy at +39 06 85960020 (daily 6 am - 12 am CET) or your local Call Center .

 

   If you purchased your ticket at a travel agent, please speak directly to your travel agent.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY FLIGHT/TRAIN IS DELAYED?

Flight delayed

 If you miss your scheduled train because of a flight delay, please go to the train company's service desk at the station. A customer service representative will help rebook you on a later train.

 Train delayed

If you miss your connecting flight due to a train delay, please go to the ITA Airways ticket office at the airport to receive a new airline ticket and be automatically rebooked on the next flight.
