The Air Transport Decarbonization Pact
The Air Transport Decarbonization Pact, which later became the PacTA Foundation, was established to promote and accelerate the achievement of air transport sustainability goals within the framework of the SDGs and the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
ITA Airways is a member of the PacTA Foundation together with leading players the air transport industry, institutions and associations which, in collaboration with academic experts, are proposing a roadmap and a virtuous path towards achieving the sector’s decarbonisation targets.
In light of the central role of air transport in relation to the country’s economy and social fabric – the ability to encourage the expansion of trade and investment abroad, to fuel market growth, and to facilitate greater competition and the transfer of technologies and knowledge – the foundation aims to set out a path that will make the development of global connectivity and productivity compatible with environmental protection.
Decarbonisation of the aviation sector will only be achievable through the implementation of a wide range of initiatives. In the short to medium term, these will focus on the development of non-fossil fuels, while in the medium to long term, they will need to include innovative solutions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of air transport.
