CHECKED BAGGAGE

Each baggage can have a maximum size of 158 cm (the sum of height + width + depth) and a maximum weight of 23 or 32 kg, depending on the travel class and destination as detailed in the following table.

USEFUL INFORMATION

WARNING: For many flight destinations there are specific restrictions on the transportation of specific items, equipment or devices. In certain instances carrying these items in a country may result in the application of sanctions. For further information we kindly invite passengers to verify with the country’s consular authorities the existence of any possible restriction before departure.

CUSTOMS PROCEDURES:

In some Countries, local Customs Authorities require passengers transiting to a domestic destination within the same Country to retrieve their luggage at the first entry point, go through customs procedures, and then check it in again for the next part of their journey. Our airport staff is always available to provide you with all the necessary information and guide you through the proper procedures for retrieving and rechecking your baggage at subsequent stops.

We suggest that you put your own personal luggage tag on the baggage, including your contact information, so that you can be reached in the event of a problem.

Cardboard boxes may be accepted as checked baggage, provided they are labeled with the passenger's name, wrapped in cellophane and comply with the maximum allowed size.

Passengers requiring Special Assistance and holding a Light Fare ticket can purchase checked baggage by calling the dedicated number at least one day before flight departure.

Please note that, for safety reasons, each item of baggage may not weigh more than 32 kg.

ITA Airways 's liability limits for lost or damaged baggage is based on Montreal Convention 1999 unless a higher value is declared in advance.

If you wish to extend these limits, find out how you can make a DECLARATION OF VALUE.

DECLARATION OF VALUE

ITA Airways 's liability limits for lost or damaged baggage do not cover damage to items of value, fragile or perishable items.

You may, if you wish, extend the coverage offered by ITA Airways by paying an additional fee for a “declaration of value” for which an excess baggage ticket is issued citing the number of the tag on the baggage containing the item(s) of value.

The liability limits for each piece of checked baggage, both on entirely domestic or international flights, can be increased to EUR 500 by paying EUR 50 for each piece of baggage. The EUR 500 would be paid out by the Customer Relations Office, together with the amounts required under applicable regulations.

The declaration of value is accepted at face value and without verification of the actual value of the contents of the baggage and cannot cover items that are not acceptable as baggage or that cannot fit in the baggage, as per the provisions of ITA Airways ’s General Conditions of Carriage. Passengers cannot make a declaration of value for less than the fixed amount offered by the Airline in accordance with the above.

ITA Airways cannot accept a declaration of value for checked baggage if it will be transported by another airline along any part of the flight itinerary.
