Select Your Favorite Seat in any Travel Class

Your travel experience is just as important as the destination.
That's why we've taken it to the next level by offering you the ability to choose your seat in all travel classes.
Book your preferred seat in advance and enjoy the travel experience you desire.
Depending on your ticket type and your Miles & More program clubs membership, seat selection is either offered free of charge or for a small fee.

When and Where to Purchase Your Seat
You can purchase or select your seat at various points, often at no additional charge, depending on your fare class and Miles & More Club membership.

At the Time of Booking

  • Online: On the ita-airways.com website or the ITA Airways app.
  • In Person: Through travel agencies or at ITA Airways airport ticket offices.
  • By Phone: Contact our Customer Information Assistance Office.
     

After Booking (Before Departure)

If your fare class does not include free seat selection and you decide not to purchase a seat, the system will assign you a free seat during check-in based on availability, operational, and safety criteria.

Adults traveling with children under 12 on the same reservation can select the Back seat free of charge; adults traveling with infants (under 2) can also select the Classic seat free of charge. Accompanying seats are guaranteed for at least one parent or guardian.

If online check-in is unable to assign accompanying seats to a minor with a parent or guardian, please contact the Customer Information Assistance Office or go directly to the airport check-in desks for assistance.

If you don't select a seat during check-in, a seat will be assigned to you free of charge. If you wish to select a specific seat for greater comfort, a Seat Selection fee applies, unless:

  • Your fare already includes complimentary seat selection.
  • You qualify for free selection based on your fare type or membership level.

Passengers with physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities and a companion can pre-select seats at no added cost by calling our Customer Information Assistance Office or at the airport (subject to availability). The companion's seat will be adjacent to the passenger with a disability.

Yes, on all flights operated by ITA Airways. Codeshare flights operated by other carriers are excluded. 

If you decide not to choose a seat, the system will assign one free of charge, based on availability, operational criteria, and safety.

You can always choose your seat during online check-in, at the airport check-in desks, or by contacting our Customer Information Assistance Office.

You can change your purchased seat free of charge if it's in the same category and on the same flight.

You can also change:

  • With a lower category seat, however, your previous price will not be refunded.
  • With a higher category seat by contacting our ​ Customer Information Assistance Office or via the airport at the check-in desks, you will be required to pay the price difference.

If you wish to change your flight date while maintaining the same itinerary (origin and destination), changing the seat will only be possible by contacting the​ Customer Information Assistance Office and will result in a fee, under these circustances: 

  • If the new seat belongs to the same category as the initial one, a penalty of €10 will apply for the classic fare and €15 for the light fare.
  • If the new seat is of a higher category, you will be required to pay a penalty of €10 for the classic fare and €15 for the light fare, as well as the price difference.
  • For seats in a lower category, a penalty of €10 will be applied for the classic fare and €15 for the light fare, but the price previously paid will not be refunded.

For those travelling with the Economy Classic Plus/Economy Base/Flex fare, in Business Short Haul, Premium or Business class, the "Seat Selection" service remains reusable even in the event of a flight change.

A full refund may be requested in the following cases:

  • When a disruption attributable to ITA Airways occurs (e.g., flight cancellation or a change in aircraft configuration), and the rebooking on a new flight or aircraft type does not allow assignment to the same seat category but only to a lower one.
  • When a missed connection occurs for the flight on which the seat was purchased, following a delay on a flight operated by ITA Airways or a Partner Airline (for a single-ticket itinerary).
  • When technical problems with the purchased seat are reported to the onboard staff.
  • When a seat reassignment is made before or after boarding by ITA Airways for operational or safety reasons.
  • Seats in Economy Class are classified according to their original value, in the following order: 
    • Legroom, 
    • Extra Space, 
    • Duo, 
    • Preferred Zone, 
    • Classic,
    • Back.

If you are reassigned from a Legroom seat to an Extra Space seat, the difference in service cost between the two categories will be refunded.
Where applicable, you can request a refund by contacting our Customer Information Assistance Office.

To purchase seats located near emergency exits, certain requirements must be met. You must:

  • Be 18 years old or older.
  • Have the strength and full mobility to assist in an emergency evacuation.
  • Not use any medication that may affect the above-described qualities in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations.
  • Be able to understand the instructions in Italian or English for operating the emergency exit.

To comply with safety requirements, passengers cannot occupy seats located near emergency exits if they are:

  • Reduced in mobility 
  • Visually or hearing impaired
  • Traveling with children or minors
  • Traveling with luggage placed on the seat
  • Pregnant 
  • Traveling with animals in the cabin
  • Severely overweight (passengers with limited movement, who require an additional seat belt on board, could hinder access to emergency exits) 

Additionally, carry-on luggage and all personal items must be placed in the overhead lockers.
If you do not meet these requirements, you will not be able to use the emergency exit seat and will be assigned a different seat. The price paid for your seat selection will not be refunded.

No, seat selection is non-transferable.
