Fly to Tripoli

5,000 years of history

Want to travel somewhere fascinating yet off the beaten track? We recommend flying to Tripoli, the capital of Libya, whose thousand-year-old historical heritage will make you feel like you are travelling through time.

To fully understand the origins of this important city, the first place worth visiting is undoubtedly the Archaeological Museum of Tripoli, also known as the Red Castle Museum, set up in collaboration with UNESCO. The site covers over 5,000 years of history, starting from prehistory and reaching as far as 1933, when Libya gained its independence.

Next, the Gurgi Mosque is definitely worth a visit to admire its majestically decorated interior. And if you are lucky (and foresighted enough to ask for permission in advance!) you can climb the Clock Tower, Tripoli’s main landmark, from where you will be able admire the entire city from above.

If you have time, head out to Leptis Magna about a hundred kilometers from Tripoli: an ancient city founded by the Phoenicians in the first millennium BC.

So, have you packed your bags for Tripoli?
