Flying from Rome to Hamburg: tips and information for your trip
Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and the main German port, although it does not overlook the sea but develops along the Elbe river. In the past it was one of the main ports of the Hanseatic League, and like any port city accustomed to welcoming people it has a rather open mind: neighborhoods like St. Pauli are considered among the most transgressive in Europe. Book an ITA Airways flight from Rome to Hamburg and discover a cosmopolitan and young city, full of cultural events such as exhibitions, festivals and concerts. An evocative and romantic place, thanks to the many canals that cross it and the sinuous buildings that are reflected in it. A place to be enjoyed also in its typical dishes such as fischbrötchen, a traditional sandwich stuffed with herring, pickles and onions that you will find on the counters of the famous city fish market.
What to see in Hamburg
Speicherstadt: Once used for the storage of goods entering and leaving the port, such as tea, coffee, tobacco, spices, carpets, these buildings are now occupied by galleries, studios, clubs, and used to host events and exhibitions. Literally ""city of warehouses"", the area was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2015.
Altstadt: the old heart of Hamburg, completely rebuilt after the Second World War. The main attractions in the area are the valuable Kunshtalle museum of ancient, modern and contemporary art, the impressive neo-Renaissance town hall Rathaus, and spectacular avant-garde galleries.
Elbphilarmonie: it is considered one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world, thanks to its spectacular design and perfect acoustics. The particular glass shape recalls the sail of a ship ready to sail, while the interior consists of two concert halls, a four-star hotel, 44 apartments and a square with panoramic views of the city and the Elbe River.
St. Pauli: considered the most alternative district in Europe, it also owes part of its fame to the Beatles, who played here in the early 60s before becoming the most famous band in the world. Its symbol is the pirate flag, and the red light district, Reeperbahn is full of clubs, pubs, casinos, gaming halls, night clubs, sex shops, strip clubs.
Church of San Michaelis: it is the cathedral of San Michele, Protestant church in Baroque style. The bell tower is 82 meters high and its clock, in addition to indicating the time to the inhabitants, is a precious reference point for sailors returning to port. By climbing the 453 steps you can have a breathtaking view of the city.
Miniatur Wunderland: a special amusement park, where different cities are reproduced in 1:87 scale. Environments rich in details, sounds and lights make this attraction inaugurated in 2001 a special stop on a trip to Hamburg, for the happiness of children but not only.
