ITA Airways has taken a step towards the mobility of the future by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus in April 2022 to collaborate in the field of UAM (Urban Air Mobility) transport in Italy.
CityAirbus NextGen (eVTOL) will be jointly developed, an all-electric aircraft carrier capable of carrying up to four people (including the pilot) over a range of 80 km at a cruising speed of 120 km/h - characteristics that make it ideal for fast, clean urban transport.
A project that concerns the development of urban and proximity civil aviation which will allow ITA Airways to expand its portfolio to also include connectivity between the airport and urban centers or neighboring territories with an innovative electric zero-emission vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
In January 2024, ITA Airways and Airbus also signed a cooperation agreement with two new partners, complementing the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding, with the common goal of working in synergy to promote and develop an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) ecosystem in Italy: UrbanV, which operates the Vertiport network, and Enel, which provides charging solutions.
The new protocol focuses on the definition of a joint roadmap for the development of an advanced air mobility ecosystem in Italy, in which the airline operator, the eVTOL OEM, the energy solutions provider and the vertiport operator will work together to evaluate different business models in collaboration with national stakeholders who are crucial for the introduction of this new service in Italy.
