ITA Airways collaborates with CHOOOSE – a Norwegian company that specializes in climate tech – to offer our customers the chance to calculate and compensate for the CO2 emissions of their flights and support the adoption of sustainable fuels.
Why compensate for CO2 emissions?
ITA Airways is strongly committed to reducing its CO2 emissions. To achieve this goal, we are progressively renewing our aircrafts, with the aim of replacing 90% of our fleet with new generation airplanes by 2027.
To achieve our decarbonisation goals, ITA Airways is actively working to find ways to offset the emissions we are unable to eliminate today by supporting a wide variety of social and environmental projects and accelerating the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
What is SAF?
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a bio-fuel produced using discarded materials from various sources that helps reduce lifecycle CO2 emissions by 80% compared to fossil jet fuel. A wider use of SAF will dramatically reduce the emissions caused by air transportation. Because SAF is currently more expensive than traditional jet fuel, travelers can help speed up its adoption by choosing airline companies that use this fuel.
What are the projects?
The chosen projects – selected by industry experts with ITA Airways – found on the dedicated page on the CHOOOSE website are certified on the basis of accredited and internationally recognized standards, such as VCS, Gold Standard, American Carbon Registry and Climate Action Reserve.
