Changing travel plans

Passengers with an ITA Airways ticket (055) purchased abroad or in Italy who have had their flight cancelled.


If you have an ITA Airways ticket (055) for flights that have been cancelled, please find the available options below:

  • change of the reservation (rebooking or rerouting - or change of the itinerary to reach the original destination or return to the point of origin of the trip), on the first available date, within 7 days from the date of the cancelled flight and/or with flight delayed for at least 5 hours.

    To request a new reservation in the period following the 7 days from the date of the cancelled flight, a fare repricing could be applied if the same class as the original flight is not available. The new reservation can be requested within 1 year from the date of the canceled flight, using at least the first leg of the itinerary within that period. Only one change is permitted.

  • change of destination to be requested within 1 year from the date of the canceled flight, using at least the first leg of the itinerary within that period. No credit is given if the new fare is lower.

    The change of destination will be possible only:
    • on DOMESTIC destinations, in case of DOMESTIC tickets;
    • on INTERNATIONAL destinations, in case of INTERNATIONAL tickets

A fare repricing could be applied if the same class as the original flight is not available. Only one change is permitted.


To change the reservation, passengers can reach the ITA Airways Contact Center at BookingsChangesRefunds@ita-airways.com or call from Italy the toll-free number 800 936090 available from Monday to Friday 09:00-20:00 (CET); Saturday, Sunday and holidays 09:00-17:00 (CET) or the Travel Agency who issued the ticket.

  • If the passenger is unable to travel or not interested in reaccommodating, a full refund, without penalty, for the price of the ticket purchased or its residual value, may be requested.
    The request will be accepted and defined as soon as possible, in accordance with Regulation EC261/2004.

Passengers can refer to the Travel Agency that issued the ticket.


In the event of being found positive with Covid, imposed quarantine or hospitalization, ITA Airways applies the above conditions, regardless of the fare purchased, in the following cases: 

a) to subjects who have been instructed to undergo quarantine with active monitoring or mandatory home stay with active monitoring by the competent health authority

b) to subjects found persons positive for the COVID-19 virus who have been instructed to undergo quarantine with active monitoring or mandatory home stay with active monitoring by the competent health authority or admission to health facilities

Any passenger who is unable to leave, before departure must call the Contact Center to cancel the reservation and must send the documentation issued by the competent health authority (ASL, AUSL, ATS etc.) or certification from their GP.
