The new Entry/Exit System (EES) is a key component of the European Union’s Smart Borders program and applies exclusively to travelers who are not holders of an EU passport.
The system concerns travel to European countries for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
The goal of the EES is to automate and digitize border checks, replacing the traditional manual passport stamp.
The Entry/Exit System (EES) will take effect on 12 October 2025, and will be gradually implemented by all Schengen Area countries, with full rollout expected by 10 April 2026.
