What is an Instant Upgrade?
The Instant Upgrade option allows you to be upgraded to Business and Premium Economy class immediately, rather than requesting to make an offer ("Upgrade with an Offer"). When you choose the “Instant Upgrade” option, the upgrade request will be authorized immediately subject to availability of seats in the selected class and payment of the amount.
For national and international routes, the option will be available 96 hours prior to the departure of your flight.
For intercontinental routes, it will be available 72 hours prior to the departure of your flight.
The same Terms and Conditions as for the “Upgrade with an Offer” option apply.
How do you take advantage of an Instant Upgrade?
Very easy: just click on the “Buy Now” link to check the availability of seats in the higher service class on your flight or on the link you received via email.
Select the leg or legs of your flight for which you wish to instantly upgrade your seat. The system will automatically check the availability and eligibility of your ticket.
If the system returns a positive answer, enter your payment details and proceed with the purchase! You will receive your upgrade details at the same email address you provided when making your original booking.
Conditions for making an Instant Upgrade
First of all, you must not have checked in for your flight.
The Instant Upgrade is applied per flight leg and for all customers included in the booking and is a service available only for flights operated by ITA Airways.
The possibility of receiving the Upgrade depends on the availability of seats in the higher service class than the one purchased, i.e. Business/Premium Economy/Superior.
The amount paid for the Instant Upgrade is non-refundable, as are the services associated with the booking.
The Instant Upgrade purchased does not include lounge access or additional baggage allowance but entitles you to:
- Have a priority baggage tag
- Enjoy use of the Fast Track lane for security checks
- Priority boarding
Important note: Some rates may not be eligible for the Instant Upgrade. It is necessary to verify the eligibility of the request.

How can I book an Instant Upgrade?

Are all passengers eligible for an Instant Upgrade?
Upgrades, including the Instant Upgrade, are applicable only for flights with a 055 ticket operated by ITA Airways. ITA Airways will, from time to time, establish the categories of tickets purchased in Economy Class or Premium Economy (for example based on the fare class paid) that allow you to request an upgrade; it is necessary to verify your eligibility for the request here. The available seats for this offer are limited and can vary depending on the destination and flight situation.
The following booking types cannot request an Instant Upgrade:
1. tickets for which some special assistance has been requested;
2. tickets with bookings of infants below 2 years of age;
3. tickets with group bookings;
4. tickets with a pet in the cabin.
What happens if my Instant Upgrade has been accepted, but I need to cancel my trip?
Once the upgrade has been confirmed, the cost is no longer refundable.
I need to rebook a flight for which I got an upgrade. Can I transfer my upgrade?
Upgrades may not be transferred. If you decide to change your flight, you will not be entitled to a refund or credit for the Upgrade obtained.
What happens if I have previously purchased seats?
Any additional options such as seat selection that you may have purchased are not refundable.
